Christopher Boots is driven by a love of nature and light, expressed through designing and creating beautiful, unique lighting. Trained in Industrial Design, Christopher Boots has a background in product design engineering. All products are hand made in Melbourne, Australia using a broad variety of techniques from a team of artisans, such as glass-blowers, coppersmiths, ceramicists, sculptors, and bronze casters, ensuring a commitment to quality. The studio carefully composes these artisans as an orchestra for perfect harmony.
Christopher had long been experimenting with materials and form, making his own furniture and lights from a young age. Christopher studied a Bachelor of Arts at La Trobe University majoring in linguistics, before making the switch to a Bachelor of Design in Industrial Design at Swinburne University of Technology.
In February 2005, Christopher and his friend, lighting designer, Volker Haug, were visiting the studio of renowned lighting designer Geoffrey Mance. Christopher accepted the opportunity to work with the designer. The most valuable understanding Christopher learned during this time was the mixing of materials and processes uncommon to the design world; that combined, bring about something completely unexpected, while still retaining classical elements of form and proportion.
In February 2007, the ailing Mance passed on the responsibilities to his designers including Christopher, and once he passed away, Christopher and the team were bequeathed with the company and the legacy to carry on.
Christopher began to pursue his own design practice in early 2011. His driving force is to give birth to ideas that inspire, with an innate desire to bring beauty into the world.
